How to Make Your Own Hemp Milk at Home Recipe

Making your own hemp milk at home is much easier than I realized, as a couple of my readers on my Facebook page recently showed me.

Much like making your own almond milk or other nut milks, the recipe for hemp milk is really quite simple, and makes for an excellent substitute to cow’s milk in various other recipes.

It’s especially worth it to make your hemp milk at home since the store bought kinds have additives you probably don’t want to mess around with, including the controversial carrageenan, which can cause digestive issues in many different types of people.

The other great thing about making your own hemp milk at home, aside from the nutrition and the taste of course, is that it’s even easier to make than regular nut milks. It’s great because you don’t need to soak the seeds before blending them in this recipe as you would with almonds or cashews.

Here’s how to make your own homemade hemp milk using a Nutribullet or Vitamix, or other blender and a nut mylk bag (optional):

Ingredients-

3/4 cup Hemp Seeds

4.5 cups of filtered or Spring Water

Pinch of Himalayan salt or Sea Salt

1 1/2 tablespoon Sweetener of Your Choice (optional; try Coconut Nectar, Raw Honey, Maple Syrup etc.)

Directions: Simply blend on high or in the Nutribullet for 60 to 90 seconds and you’re on your way to fresh homemade hemp milk with no unhealthy additives.

You may also want to use a nut mylk bag to strain the milk into something finer and more smooth for drink and using in recipes. This milk will keep well in the fridge for 3-4 days and is an excellent way to add a huge dose of healthy Omega 3s and plant-based protein to your diet among other nutrients.

Note: You can also optionally add spices such as cinnamon to the mix or even raw cacao to make chocolate hemp milk.

Also, if you’re looking for a good source of hemp seeds from a reputable company, you can buy them in bulk from Nutiva here.
