Can’t Buy All Organic? These Two Favorite Fruits Contain Virtually No Detectable Pesticides

The world is still not fully on board the organic living train just yet, but sales of organic produce are booming mainly because people want to avoid synthetic pesticide residues on their food.

Organic growers use far less pesticides and herbicides don’t use the synthetic types like glyphosate and Roundup that are linked to cancer and other health problems.

Going the natural route also preserves the soil which is why organic produce has been found to have higher levels of antioxidants, trace minerals and some key vitamins as well.

Two Favorite Fruits Mostly Pesticide Free

While buying organic is always the best decision for both the future and the present of our health and planet, there are still millions of people struggling to pay the bills and many of them are reluctant to pay too much.

Saving money on organic food means being a smart shopper, and that’s why many people look forward to the release of the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list from the Environmental Working Group. This year’s list includes the 12 types of produce with the most pesticide residues and the fifteen with the least, and two favorite fruits in particular were noted for their distinct lack of pesticides, even when not purchased organic: avocados and pineapples.

According to the EWG of all avocados tested, only 1 percent showed any detectable pesticides at all, while a grand total of 89 percent of all pineapples tested had zero residues according to the study.

Adding in that both pineapples and avocados have a relatively hard shell that prevents the pesticides from seeping into the meat of the fruits, there’s no question that these are two of the absolutely best things to buy “conventional” if your goal is to save money.

At the same rate, getting the most for your money includes buying produce with the most nutrients and health benefits in general, so don’t be afraid to spend a little extra if you see a good deal on organic pineapples and avocados.

Both are among the healthiest foods out there for myriad reasons so it’s never a waste of money to go “all in” on the organic versions.
