One of the perks of running this website (despite the constant censorship we have received for broaching controversial topics) is getting the ability to try many of the best organic and natural foods, supplements, and gadgets on the market.
Recently, I had the opportunity to try something truly unique in the food and culinary market in today’s day and age: a microplastic-free sea salt fom the company Ava Jane’s Kitchen, sourced from a pristine location in Mexico (see product review here).
Following the review, I was also given the opportunity to try some more specialty foods from the company, and thus far I have been impressed and delighted with what they are able to provide.
Product #1: Wild Harvested, Caramelized Cacao Beans
Chief among the four products is Ava Jane’s caramelized cacao, which consists of three simple ingredients: wild harvested cacao beans, sugar, and organic vanilla extract.
If you’ve been reading this website for longer than a few months you probably know that the word “sugar” is something of a red flag in today’s day and age, considering that this term usually designates beet sugar from Roundup Ready, genetically modified sugar beets.
In the case of Ava Jane’s, the sugar is organic, non-GMO cane sugar, and the company’s wild harvested cacao beans recently were certified organic as well.
The top-shelf quality of these ingredients is just a small part of why this is one of my favorite healthy snacks in years. While some may have a bone to pick with the inclusion of sugar in the recipe (this has 10 grams per ¼ cup), one thing I’ve noticed over the years personally is that healthy dark chocolate or cacao mixed with sugar does not seem to give me the same ups and downs, rises and crashes that regular candies do.
Perhaps it’s the magnesium in the cacao that makes a difference: magnesium is the first mineral our bodies dump when we are stressed, and these caramelized cacao beans have 51 mg (10% of your daily value) per serving.
All I know is that when I eat them, they make me feel amazing, and cacao is one of the few things I can eat with sugar and not feel a crash. If you’re a fan of Mini Eggs from Cadbury and want something way healthier, you should definitely try these.
Diabetics, be careful and consult your doctor before trying. That being said, I give these a resounding 5 out of 5 stars.[Click here to try these wild harvested caramelized cacao beans from Ava Jane’s]
Product #2 Avocado Oil:
The second product from Ava Jane’s is a 100% unrefined avocado oil that is packed full of healthy fats.
Avocadoes are one of the least inflammatory, high-fat foods you could consume, and avocado oil is rarely used but much healthier than canola oil, soy oil, and similar products which are heavily processed and oftentimes genetically modified and laced with Roundup.
While this particular product does not say organic on the label, it’s well worth noting that avocados were the number one “cleanest” food on the EWG’s “Clean Fifteen” for 2019. Less than 1 percent of samples of avocados showed any detectable pesticides as of last spring.
With that in mind, Ava Jane’s 100% unrefined avocado oil is a smart purchase if you’re looking for a healthy cooking oil that is non-GMO and has a high smoke point.
I’m also a big fan of the texture, which is thicker and more consistent than coconut oil, making it excellent for cooking.
All things considered, I’d give this one 4 out of 5 stars.
Products #3 and #4: Spice Blends from Ava Jane’s Kitchen
In addition to the cacao beans, avocado oil and salt, I’ve also had a chance to check out their everyday spice blend and blackened fish blend. Neither of these has organic on the label, but they both have high quality ingredients like Colima sea salt (mentioned earlier), xylitol, lemon and orange peels, and more.
Overall, these are way higher quality than even the organic spice products you’d find at the health food store of supermarket. And knowing the quality this company puts into everything they make, both are well worth a purchase.
Ava Jane’s spice blends and salt are for serious chefs in my book because of their robustness and savory flavors. I give these spices 5 out of 5 stars.
I simply can’t recommend this company’s products enough.
