Vegan Smoothie Recipe: Tropical Chia Sunburst (with Almond Milk)

Everyone loves a good tropical smoothie, and more people are discovering health benefits of chia seeds every single day, too.

Chia seeds are especially high in the uber-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids, and they also help keep the body exceptionally hydrated because of their ability to expand like a balloon and absorb water to be released more slowly into the body.

That makes the following smoothie especially good for lasting energy and even excellent as a pre-workout smoothie for fueling your body throughout the session.

Salome Torres, creator of the recipe.

The recipe comes from the kitchen of certified raw nutritionist Salome Torres of the website of the same name, and was featured in my recent recipe book [easyazon_link asin=”B00JMULLUW” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”al0b63-20″]Raw Vegan Radiance: The Best Smoothie Recipes for Natural Beauty[/easyazon_link]:

Ingredients:

-1 banana

-1 orange

-1 cup almond milk

-1 tbsp. chia seeds

-Fresh ginger (a small piece)

Directions: Blend together to desired consistency in a regular blender, Vitamix or Nutribullet.

Comments: The subtle flavors of the ginger combined with the orange and banana make for an unforgettable smoothie combination in this one.

Chia seeds add extra hydration to this simple yet effective recipe that is an excellent go-to mix for when you want something you can whip up quickly for a midday energy boost.

You can also give it more of a dessert-like feel and texture by adding some ice cubes into the mix or by using a frozen banana. Use a little bit of spring water if you have a hard time blending it, and be sure to let chia seeds soak in the spring water if you do use it because that helps them to expand and deliver hydration direct to your body for best results.

Almond milk can be purchased at the store, but it’s far better to make your own almond milk. For this recipe and for an extra boost of nutrition and probiotics, we use Salome’s probiotic-rich almond milk recipe, which can be found in the book [easyazon_link asin=”B00JMULLUW” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”al0b63-20″]Raw Vegan Radiance[/easyazon_link], which is mentioned above and includes several additional smoothie recipes for natural beauty, clear skin, pre and post-workout situations and much more.
