AltHealthWORKS at 5,000: What’s this all about, anyway?

The AltHealthWORKS Facebook page hit 5,000 fans on Wednesday, January 23, a milestone we never expected would happen so soon when we started the page back in late May 2012.

While we’ve been hesitant to celebrate other fan-related accomplishments in the past such as 1,000 fans, 3,000 fans, etc., this one feels a little more special. The numbers of shares, comments, and questions are going up and it’s exciting to be able to share health experiences and knowledge with people who are seeking it.

A special thank you goes out to all of our fans, as well as the many other independent health pages who have liked, commented, or shared our content over the past eight months.

So what is this page all about, anyway? It started as an extension of my postings on the popular holistic and natural health websites’ Facebook pages such as, and more. I noticed that the questions I had been asking were drawing a surprisingly large amount of responses, likes and more.

Dr. Joseph Mercola even answered three of my questions on his video blog within a span of about 10 days. As a lifelong journalist (and a young one still who’s spent many years researching natural health), I knew the art of asking the right questions and that’s what allowed me to get exposure on those pages.

Once the Facebook timeline rollout was complete and I noticed many of my friends had begun creating pages for their businesses or interests/hobbies, I decided the time was right to start my own page for health.

With humble expectations and no budget, I created the page and began doing what I normally do: Asking questions. People began to like the concepts of AltHealthWORKS and before I knew it I had a solid base of fans to draw from.

I continued to gain fans organically, and eventually mixed post-sharing and networking in with the normal commentary. Things kept snowballing, and now here we sit today with over 5,000 fans while growing exponentially by the day.

The website has seen solid traffic thanks to our engaged and ever-curious Facebook fans, who are always willing to learn and explore new things. Past interviews have included a trip to the first on-site organic hospital greenhouse in the United States, a fascinating discussion with an “international micronutritionist” who helped Amazon natives discover the healing power that lies all around them and to eschew modern medicines and Western food, an interview with the GMO Labeling campaign in California’s top media representative, and many more.

These interviews and comprehensive articles are where our true passion lies, and we hope to be able to bring more of them to you in the coming months now that we have established a solid base of what I feel are some of the most well-read fans on Facebook, even among other thriving online natural health communities.

Each of the articles and interviews were conducted with the goal of filling in gaps of knowledge that had existed within the movement. The GMO Labeling campaign needed all the press it could get because of its historic nature, the hospital greenhouse was a monumental accomplishment, and many people still don’t know the incredible benefits of Amazon Rainforest herbs, which constitute the most potent natural medicine I’ve ever experienced (you can find out more about them at this link, or simply shoot me a message on Facebook to find out more).

Alternative/natural/holistic Health journalism still has a long way to go and still is a bit lacking in terms of having the proper number of professional journalists on hand. I’m simply here to contribute to this great movement using my own writing and interviewing skills as best I can.

In the meantime, I’ll keep sharing those infographics and articles you can’t seem to get enough of. You can also check out many of the products we recommend on our store tab(s) above.

If you have a suggestion for an article, interview, or any other type of content or have a question or concern you’d like us to look into, don’t hesitate to ask.

Currently on the docket are interviews with a stunningly youthful 70+ year-old raw vegan author, a mother who reversed her son’s life threatening allergies by becoming a beekeeper and using the healing power of pollen and raw honey, a health speaker who works to reverse vision conditions naturally, and much more. These are the types of stories that need to be told, and will continue to be told on, as soon as we get our house in order and carve out more time to support this project.

We welcome your feedback and look forward to many years of watching the website and Facebook page continue to grow and evolve. Thanks for everything and please share with your friends if you’re on board with us and our mission!

And don’t hesitate to leave us some feedback in the comments section below!
