Product Review: A Rich, Flavorful Organic Coffee From the Pristine Soils of Hawaii

Kona coffee is a delicious and hearty variety from Hawaii that coffee aficionados absolutely love.

One of the best coffee drinking experiences of my life occurred in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, a seaside tourist town on the Pacific Ocean in the Western part of the country.

The coffee I had from Costa Rica was similar to the bananas, soursop and other healthy foods I bought from local grocery stores and markets: it had a distinct, robust flavor and nutrient profile.

Since then I have searched the Web over for coffee and cacao brands that match what I tasted in Costa Rica, and most have fallen short.

Recently I had the opportunity to try a type of coffee that stacks up nicely with the unnamed Costa Rican variety whose name I can no longer remember, and it comes from one of the most pristine tropical regions on Earth.

Tony and Louie’s Coffee Review

Tony and Louie's Coffee in Hawai'i. Grown without pesticides, fungicides or herbicides.

Located in Captain Cook, HI, Tony and Louie’s grows their coffee on a small farm on ‘The mauka slope of the old ahupua’a of Ka’awaloa in Captain Cook on the Big Island of Hawai’i,’ according to the company’s website.

The term ahupua’a is Hawaiian for a ‘large traditional socioeconomic, geologic, and climate climatic subdivision of land.’

These subdivisions usually extend from the mountains to the sea and include watersheds and other marine-based locales.

The diversity of the land and richness of the soil lend their flavor to Tony and Louie’s Kona coffee*, and the result is an incredible brew that will thrill and delight even the most skeptical coffee lover.
*The term Kona designates coffee grown in a premium area, typically of the Arabica variety

The company uses no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides for growing their delicious coffee and cacao beans.
“We then lovingly pick, pulp and ferment it, dry it in its parchment in the hot Kona sun, and send it to our favorite local mill for hulling and roasting,” the company’s website added about its production methods.
The company’s farm has the appearance of a veritable paradise as shown from the Instagram photos found on their website here.
All things considered, this is one small company that does it the right way in my personal opinion.

Simply put, this is the best small company, single estate and pesticide-free coffee I have had since my days in Costa Rica. A friend told me Kona Coffee from Hawai’i is amazing and so I made it my personal mission to try a cup or two of it.
I am so glad that I did, because it is one of the best varieties of coffee I have ever had in my life.
Special thanks to Tony and Louie’s for sharing their creation with me, and if you get a chance don’t forget to check out their Facebook page (Ka’waaloa Trail Farm) by clicking on this link.
