Product Review: Tropical Traditions Gold Label Organic Coconut Oil

If you’ve been following this website and/or our Facebook page, you probably know about our tendency to preach about the importance of trusting your source when it comes to making your food purchase.

Just as the “Know Your Farmer” axiom has become popular among those in the natural health and food freedom movements, “Know Your Producer” is something to keep in mind as you shop for natural and organic products.

One of this website’s favorite brands has always been Tropical Traditions, a California-based company that specializes in coconut oil as well as a wide variety of organic food products sourced from small farms in various U.S. locations.

I’ve given the company several shout-outs in the past because of how much I love their products, especially their flagship coconut oil, and the company was kind enough to send me a jar of its Gold Label organic coconut oil for review purposes recently.

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review: Best on the Market?

Brian and Marianita Shilhavy, the founders of Tropical Traditions, were the first people to export Virgin Coconut Oil from the Philippines in 2001, and they have continued their tradition of producing fine coconut oil ever since.

The coconut oil is truly unrefined, unlike a few brands’ products I’ve accidentally bought and been forced to return recently from regular store shelves.

According to Tropical Traditions, the Gold Label organic coconut oil also is:

-Produced by family farmers in small batches

-Tested repeatedly to make sure its antioxidant capabilities remain high

-Packed fresh within 24 hours of harvest

-Not mass-produced by machines (to piggyback off of the previous declaration

These features all demonstrate Tropical Traditions’ sterling commitment to best practices, and that’s why they’re one of the companies that is most worthy of your support. They’ve always been my go-to source for coconut oil and their Gold Label variety is the best on the market that I’ve found.

I use it in several different ways:

-In smoothies, especially with green vegetables for better absorption

-As a hair conditioner

-For cooking in place of “vegetable oil,” where it holds up much better and is much healthier due to high heat integrity

-In raw desserts using raw cacao and other ingredients such as blended dates

…And much more.

Among the health benefits of coconut oil are increased metabolism, a strong boost of anti-viral, anti-parasite and anti-bacterial power, thyroid support, immune support, and even cardiovascular benefits.

According to Dr. Joseph Mercola of the popular website, multiple studies on Pacific Island populations who get 30-60 percent of their total caloric intake, coconut oil, which is actually high in saturated fat, have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease.

Coconut oil has been demonized in the past because of well funded ad campaigns that actually took aim at the partially hydrogenated version and confused the two, but the secret is out all over the United States and the world: Real, honest, unaltered coconut oil one of the healthiest foods out there.

If you’re looking for a high quality, ethical coconut oil, you can’t do much better than Tropical Traditions’ products.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to work coconut oil into your diet, you’ll see big changes for the better!
