URGENT: Petition to Stop What’s Being Called “Bayer-Monsanto’s Most Dangerous GMO Yet”

The Bayer-Monsanto merger seems to have put the brakes on the protest movement against what was once known as the “Most Evil Company in the World,” but there are still many controversial products being created, right under our noses, by the Bayer-Monsanto alliance.

Upon taking control of Monsanto headquarters in 2018, Bayer immediately began pumping billions of dollars into its new GMO (read: lab spliced) crop division, giving its scientists the green light to begin creating tons of new crops designed to withstand large sprayings of toxic herbicides, in stark contrast with permaculture and other ecologically friendly organic gardening practices.

Now, Bayer and Monsanto are preparing to launch a new type of GMO corn that could be their most dangerous to date: it goes by the name of MON87429, and it’s being genetically engineered to withstand the spraying of “five toxic herbicides” according to the non-profit GMO Free USA.

“You heard that right. Not one. Not two. Not three. Not four. FIVE. Five ways to poison you. Five ways to poison the planet with 2,4-D, dicamba, glufosinate, glyphosate, and quizalofop. And these GMO seeds will also be pre-coated with Bayer’s bee-killing neonicotinoid insecticides. Bayer is ramping up its chemical warfare on Nature,” the organization wrote on its Facebook page, urging people to sign the petition against the new “Frankencorn” by 11:59 p.m. tonight.

URGENT Call to Action: Sign the Petition Against MON87429 Now

The petition, which can be viewed, read and signed by clicking on this link, is directed to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the USDA, regarding the newly-created GMO corn.

The comment period for this particular lab-created breed of Monsanto corn ends today: Tuesday, July 7 at 11:59 p.m., which is why GMO Free USA is calling for all hands on deck to stop its approval.

“The agrichemical industry and their farmers are waging chemical warfare against Nature,” the petition reads.

“The farmers are on what health experts have coined the ‘chemical treadmill,’ a path of never ending and escalating use of poisons.”

Despite the growing movement of organic farming across the United States, we still have a long way to go. The vast majority of our organic food comes from overseas, while farmland in the United States is increasingly being subjected to toxic, synthetic herbicides from Monsanto and Bayer.

“Now, Bayer-Monsanto wants to throw the kitchen sink at the superweed problem they created,” the petition also reads.

“Bayer wants the USDA to deregulate their MON-87429 corn, genetically engineered to tolerate five different pesticides. You heard that right. Not two. Not three. FIVE toxic pesticides! 2,4-D, dicamba, glufosinate, glyphosate, and quizalofop. And no one has studied the combined toxicity of these 5 chemicals when used together. The chemical cocktail effect tells us the combination is likely even more toxic than the individual pesticides, which are already linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, kidney and liver damage, autism, birth defects, reproductive problems, neurotoxicity and more.

“We don’t need any more GMOs that contaminate our non-GMO and organic crops. And the nation certainly doesn’t need any more persistent toxic chemicals in our environment or our bodies. Tell the USDA to end this madness. Reject Bayer-Monsanto’s MON-87429 corn.”

To learn more, or sign the petition, you can follow this link to the GMO Free USA page and enter your information. The petition takes only a minute or two to sign and gives readers the option to submit a pre-written comment, or to write in their own instead.

Considering the scale of what’s at stake here, it’s well worth your time to educate yourself on this issue, and to share with any friends you think may be interested in helping to spread the word about this controversial new GMO corn, which could be one of the most destructive health and environment wise since the merger of Monsanto and Bayer became complete back in summer 2018.
