Fitness Focused 78-Year-Old ‘Ghostbusters’ Star Ernie Hudson Shows Off Fridge, Diet And Home Gym

Ernie HUdson of Ghostbusters fame showed off his fridge and gym.

The original ‘Ghostbusters’ movie debuted in June 1984, one year after I was born.

My favorite characters in the movie was Winston Zeddemore, one of the four main Ghostbusters characters played by Ernie Hudson, an actor from Benton Harbor, Michigan who went to college at Wayne State University in downtown Detroit near where I grew up.

Hudson is still going strong at age 78 and is seen as a health and fitness inspiration.

He meets often with fans on the movie and sci-fi convention circuit and has maintained a positive image through it all as one of the most popular characters from the beloved, classic 80s movie franchise.

Recently Hudson, now 78 years old, recently decided to let Men’s Health viewers in on his home gym, fridge, and health & fitness routine. It paints the picture of a man dedicated to health and fitness in what is typically viewed as a latter stage of life, giving him plenty of goodwill with the health and fitness community.

Hudson Reveals One Food He “Can’t Eat”

Hudson said that he “can’t eat” one of his favorite food categories anymore, soul food, because of the way it affects him. He talks about corn and cornbread as two types of foods that his body doesn’t always agree with, but he does consider soul food one of his favorite “cheat meals” because of the taste and nostalgia factor from enjoying it with his late brother over the years.

He also considers crackers as a “cheat food” because he likes to keep his carbohydrates intake low, preferring to feast on vegetables most of the time based on his dietary descriptions.

Hudson’s Biggest Staple Foods

Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters fame described his workout and food routine.

Hudson also revealed his biggest staple foods, many of which are food in the kitchens of some of the top health and wellness influencers, coaches, and personal trainers.

Hudson eats the following foods as staples:

-Boiled eggs (occasionally scrambled)

-Smoked salmon

-Steak

-Steamed vegetables

-Oatmeal

-Soups, including organic selections from Erewhorn, a California based cafe chain

Hudson has an allergy to shellfish which he experienced in a terrible way in the military. A drill sergeant forced him to eat a piece of shrimp, not realizing the havoc it could wreak on Hudson’s body. The ‘Ghostbusters’ star had a bad reaction and was eventually discharged from the military as a result of his unfortunate and unfair episode.

How Hudson Scratches His Workout Itch

Hudson boasts an impressive physique and states that he is the type of person who needs someone else to tell him what to do when it comes to workouts. His trainer is Garba ‘Mister G’ Onadja, owner of Studio G in California.

He does a boxing workout with Onadja and works out often in creative ways. As he has gotten older, balance has become a key area of focus for the ‘Ghostbusters’ star. He spends about an hour on balance and coordination training doing simple exercises like those shown in the video below, adding that he has seen people in ill health and seen people die from lack of balance and coordination.

Pilates and stretching are key areas of focus for Hudson. He works strength training into his routine using free weights and walks 10,000 steps per walking session. He also noted that he has been doing push-ups for decades, aiming for 100 per day.

Hudson remains ambitious, saying that his fitness goal is to “look good at 100.” He adds that he also would like to look good “at 120” adding that he does not know what the future holds.

He prefers weight training to cardio, but gives all forms of exercise his undivided attention. Check out Hudson’s routine and proclivities in the video below from Men’s Health, an inspiration to anyone in their 70s and beyond:
