Monsanto Still Faces Over 40,000 Cases of Alleged Roundup Poisoning at the State Level

The Monsanto Chemical Company was purchased by German giant Bayer in 2018 for $63 billion, but the company’s former name remains in news headlines for countless reasons.

Monsanto recently was ordered to pay $2.25 billion in a cancer verdict this January that mostly flew under the radar.

On February 12, the Miller & Zois, Inc. LLC law firm based in Baltimore, Maryland shared an update on Monsanto lawsuits nationwide and it looks like more bad news for the chemical and GMO seed conglomerate.

Monsanto/Bayer Face Nearly 50,000 Additional Lawsuits

According to the aforementioned law firm, there are more than 40,000 Roundup cases pending, mostly in state court.

Over 4,000 of them are located in California and nearly 50,000 lawsuits are active nationwide.

“As of January 2024, Monsanto has reached settlement agreements in nearly 100,000 Roundup lawsuits,” the law firm wrote on its website.

“Monsanto paid approximately $11 billion. Bayer has accomplished this by negotiating block settlement arrangements with plaintiffs’ lawyers who have significant cases in the litigation…and by settling with plaintiffs before trial.”

Monsanto Challenging $2.25 Billion Verdict

The law firm also noted that Monsanto is challenging the aforementioned $2.25 billion cancer verdict claiming that a series of mistakes by a Philadelphia judge named Susan Schulman “unfairly influenced the trial’s outcome.”

“In typical Monsanto fashion, the motion called the court’s rulings ‘inexplicable,’”  Miller & Zois wrote.

“It is hard to understand who the target audience is – other than themselves – with this kind of rhetoric.”

Law Firm Warns of Monsanto Litigation Scams

The law firm also warned of potential litigation scams targeting potential victims in California.

The alleged scammers say that they are from the Miller & Zois law firm telling phone respondents “they are entitled to $40,000 in compensation.”

The firm urged people to stay on guard should such a scam be targeted at them.

“If you get a call like this, it is a scam,” they stated. “And if you have a viable case, it is likely worth a heck of a lot more than $40,000.”
