Five Essential Oils That Help Improve Dream Quality, Duration, and Lucidity

Boswellia aka Frankincense oil is amazing for dreams.

Over the decade-plus that I have been a professional health blogger and journalist, there are few things that have captured my attention more than the inner workings of the human mind, and how it can impact the way we perceive the world.

Both our conscious and subconscious minds have a profound effect on our enjoyment of life, who we become in life, whether we succeed at accomplishing our goals in life and so much more.

I have had several health-conscious friends and associates over the years who have helped me to learn a tremendous amount about the human mind, and learning about dreams and the subconscious mind is a big piece of the puzzle.

One of the best tips I’ve ever learned about improving the quality and lucidity of dreams is to use herbal medicine, teas, and essential oils for this purpose.

There is one essential oil in particular that always seems to ensure an incredible dreaming experience for me, plus four other essential oils may also be use for this purpose.

Without further ado, here are the top five essential oils for people who want to dream, and dream big:

1. Frankincense-

This is without a doubt the best dream-enhancing essential oil in my experience. I’ve been taking this Frankincense and Geranium essential oil blend from a company called Banyo recently and it has helped to give me some of the most clairvoyant, deep and meaningful dreams I have had in a long, long time.

Frankincense is also known as Boswellia oil and is said to be one of the three ‘Gifts of the Magi’ mentioned in the Bible, along with Myrrh and gold. Frankincense helps to improve brain function including motor skills and the retention of memories.

It can help reduce inflammation in the brain and seems to improve and increase subconscious mind activity. Frankincense helps to reduce inflammation related to brain injury, a benefit that is underestimated but well known among aromatherapy practitioners.

The more clarity you have during the night in terms of your dreams, the better organized your brain will be upon waking which is why I have been rubbing Frankincense on my wrists and temple before bed with incredible results for dream quality.

I began using the Frankincense oil from DoTerra, which can be found on Amazon.com, and lately I have been using this one from the company Banyo, which makes essential oil blends, exfoliation gloves for face and body exfoliating and cleansing, and other unique essential oil based products for the home.

2. Rose-

I once visited a health expo called the Awake & Empowered Expo in Detroit where I met some interesting characters, many of whom just so happened to be exceptional natural healers with under-represented and little-known techniques.

One person was nicknamed ‘Dr. Dream’ and he specialized in Tibetan Healing Bowl ceremonies. He explained that Rose essential oil is believed to have the highest ‘frequency’ of any essential oil. I purchased rose oil and began using it often on myself. It is one of the most expensive essential oils but the fragrance is absolutely divine and something that must be experienced to be believed.

It is well known that flowers have unique healing powers based in medicine ranging from Asia to the Middle East to Native American cultures and so many others, and rose is considered to be the most potent healing flower based oil.

Its scented has been described as ‘intoxicating’ and it helps to relax and open ‘channels’ for healing that no other essential oil can. In this relaxed state, lucid dreaming is highly possible, as well as better overall feelings or well-being throughout the day.

3. Jasmine-

Jasmine essential oil.

One of the least-used essential oils, jasmine is a scent that nonetheless many people will recognize because of their exposure to this fragrant flower in nature over the years.

Aromatherapy with jasmine is said to help to heal issues regarding sensuality and sexuality. It relaxes the limbic system, conscious mind and subconscious mind and can induce lucid dreaming in those who use it consistently.

Its sweet aroma reminds many people of a joyful and relaxing spring or summer day which is why it invokes feelings of nostalgia in those who use this highly effective essential oil for dreaming.

4. Lemon Balm-

Lemon balm is well known for its relaxing properties but its uses go far deeper than that for people who are into the process of lucid dreaming.

Lemon balm is said to help stimulate prophetic dreams because of its ability to relax even the most hardened individuals and to put them into different mind-states as they drift off to sleep for the night.

Because it is so powerful it is recommended to be used sparingly for this purpose.

5. Clove Oil-

Clove oil is known for its dental benefits including its ability to stop one of the most frustrating dental health problems known to man. It is also routinely referred to as having the most disease-fighting free radical scavenging antioxidant values of any plant or herb based medicine making it an incredible herb for all-around health.

Chewing on cloves helps to release Eugenol, a compound that stimulates improved digestion and helps to stimulate total body health.

Eugenol also helps to stimulate a health dreaming process aside from its disease-protective abilities. Clove has a ‘spicy’ aroma and flavor and scent profile that is unique in the essential oil category. I like it as an essential oil roll-on.

Thanks for reading!

These are just a few of my favorite essential oils for enhanced dreams and they all offer their own unique benefits. If I had to pick one, Frankincense would be my favorite, hands-down.

I hope you get a chance to apply these oils before bedtime to experience the difference in your dreams first-hand. For me, this has been a game-changer for improving the health of my subconscious mind and giving me valuable insights consistently over the course of my week, and it’s even more effective when combined with dream journaling and meditation first thing in the morning so that you can better remember your dreams and the message your sub-conscious mind is telling you.

Sincerely,
