Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Ignores GMO Elephant in the Room Amid New “Natural” Food Dye Approval

The Food and Drug Administration along with Feb. 2025 confirmed Department of Health and Human Services Head Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have launched an assault on petroleum based, artificial food dyes, convincing food companies to remove them from their products because of concerns about links to cancer, ADHD, allergic reactions and other health maladies.

The FDA approved a new “natural” blue food dye for human consumption, an alternative that is expected to replace Blue #1, an artificial food dye with potentially damaging health effects.

Functional medicine doctor and New York Times Best Selling Author Will Cole hailed the news on his X account, calling it a “win for healthier food.”

A closer look at how the dye is made highlights concerns based on how the new blue food dye will be made.

New Blue Food Dye Made With Soy: Will It Be GMO?

The new blue food dye is expected to be made from gardenia fruit, a flower evergreen beloved by Far East cultures including traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.

The color is expected to be used in sports drinks, flavored water drinks, fruit drinks, teas and candies among other products.

The dye will be made from genipin, an extract derived from crushed gardenia fruit, by reacting it with soy protein isolate.

The soybeans are used to make the dye look blue.

The soy protein is not expected to be detected in the final color additive and will “not cause allergic reactions” according to a report from CBSNews.

The FDA is still reviewing the company’s request to avoid listing soy as an allergen.

Kennedy Jr. hailed the news as a win for children’s health but refused to acknowledge the use of soy, most of which is genetically modified in the United States.

“Every day, children are exposed to synthetic chemicals in food that serve no purpose and threaten their health,” Kennedy Jr. said in a press release.

“The FDA’s approval of gardenia blue shows we’re finally putting kids first.

“Thanks to (United States Commissioner of Food and Drugs) Dr. Marty Makary’s bold leadership, we’re cutting through industry influence and taking decisive action to Make America Healthy Again.”

GMO Soy: The Elephant in the Room

While the United States government hails the new food coloring as a triumph, the devil is in the details.

Genetically modified soy still accounts for over 90% of the United States soy crop each year. It is oftentimes processed with toxic hexane chemicals and heavily sprayed with Roundup which could seep into the new food colorings and may be used en masse throughout several different product lines of packaged foods.

Kennedy, Jr. has spoken out about the health risks of genetically modified foods, farming and crops in the past, but has seemingly brushed it under the rug as not worthy of discussion a little over five months into his time as Head of Health and Human Services, an alarming development for the health Americans of all ages.
