Product Review: An Earth-Grown Adaptogenic Cacao Drink for Energy, Focus and More

The Organic, Earth-grown ingredients in Earthy make for one heck of a smart and function morning energy drink.

The world of energy drinks spans all the way from carbonated drinks laced with aspartame and artificial colors to cold brew coffees, organic and natural health drinks, and everything in between.

In recent years the organic and natural energy drinks industry has found itself in an experimental mode, doing its best to create a wide range of products that deliver the energy of coffee without jitters or other negative effects.

The company Earthy was founded by lifelong athletes Kyle and Brooks, a duo that states on their website that they ‘love to play outside and believe deeply that conscious businesses hold the power to change the world.’

“We share a passion for movement, mushrooms and adventure and we prefer going on our own path,” they stated on the Earthy website, which can be found here.

The duo biked (in Kyle’s case) and ran (in Brooks’ case) down the entire West Coast from Canada to Mexico and chronicled the incredible journey on their Instagram page.

I had the opportunity to try Earthy recently and came away impressed. The following are my impressions.

Earthy: Taste, Color and Ingredients

Earthy has a light brown color that is different from many other cacao based drinks I’ve had. It’s not quite as dark and rich in cacao as other drinks as it seems to focus more on its full combination of ingredients than positioning itself as a simple cacao drink.

It also includes the following ingredients:

-Beetroot

-Adaptogenic cacao

-Lion’s mane

-Cordyceps

-Guayusa (a natural source of caffeine)

-Cinnamon

-Nutmeg

-Monkfruit (low glycemic index, healthy sweetener)

The cacao taste was rich in flavor and had a smooth and delicious earthiness to it. I drank my first Earthy packet straight up with grass-fed whey protein and it added a nice complement of flavor.

Secondly, I added it to oatmeal. The flavor went perfectly well. To me, this was the best combination I made with Earthy.

My third sample Earthy packet mixed well in coffee, although the coffee taste made it difficult to fully taste the cacao and other flavors.

The fourth packet I added to a coffee cup on its own as a hot chocolate substitute. It took a little time to mix and had the consistency of coffee with a light cream or coffee creamer product in it, but tasted quite delicious.

I do feel personally that Earthy would do well to add a little more cacao to its recipe.

Earthy Coffee Substitute Health Benefits

The health benefits in this blend were impressive.

Beetroot is excellent for cardiovascular health and not something I get often in my routine. Guayusa gives a much more focused and consistent level of focus and concentration than traditional caffeine. Cacao relaxes, provides a ‘feel good’ jolt of energy in the brain and protects against disease-causing free radicals. Cordyceps is great for lung function and Lion’s mane is great for cognitive function.

These ingredients combine to create a functional and subtly delicious coffee substitute that I enjoyed.

Special thanks to Earthy for sending these samples!
