Supplement, food and snack companies have been put under the microscope in recent years not just because of what their products contain but also for what their products don’t contain.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try out a product that is free from some of the most heavily scrutinized and critiqued ingredients on Earth, including soy and seed oils, and really enjoyed it on several different levels.

Obi Bar is a natural protein and fiber rich food bar that contains avocado oil instead of canola oil (KIND Bars have added it recently) and other less healthy ingredients and it also has the macro nutrient ratios that had me feeling great for an entire week of consuming them.

Each bar has 13 grams of protein and nine grams of fiber along with healthy monounsaturated fats from avocado oil, a rarity in the protein bar space. These are my impressions.

Obi Bar Flavors

I tried a 12-pack of the Obi Bar chocolate almond flavor and really enjoyed it. Each bar had a texture consistent with the avocado oil inside of it which is one of my favorite textures among healthy foods.

The avocado oil made for a rich and delicious experience and the chocolate almond flavor was light but crisp and enjoyable. The sweetness level of these bars ranks at a scale of 6.5 out of 10 based on other bars I’ve tried, both from the health food store and grocery store.

Other flavors include blueberry almond and choco chip.

If you’re tired of overly sweet protein and fiber bars I think you will really enjoy these ones.

The bars are sweetened with Dates and Honey making them lower glycemic index so they won’t spike your blood sugar like so many bars with refined sugar nowadays.

Oats are considered a healthy source of both soluble and insoluble fiber and they are included in Obi Bar.

I really liked the blend of nutrients in these bars with ingredients including dates, oats, honey, egg whites, almonds, and avocado oil as well as sea salt and sunflower lecithin.

They left me feeling full and energized and I wolfed them down with a lot of enthusiasm because of how good they tasted.

Each bar will give you 34 percent of your daily recommended value of fiber and 17 percent of your daily recommended value of protein.

I ate two bars or more in one sitting and really enjoyed them. I definitely like them better than KIND Bars and most other similar products at grocery stores.

These bars were definitely a Godsend for me because I got them in the mail at a time when I didn’t have much food in my pantry and was in the process of doing lots of high intensity workouts.

Their portability, convenience and great macro nutrient ratios stood out to me, along with the taste.

The product was created by its founder Bobby who had a health scare at age 52 before going back to the drawing board, literally and figuratively, to come up with a healthy snack to replace his favorite chocolate covered peanuts.

What resulted was something with a complex and nourishing ingredients profile that I thoroughly enjoyed and felt energized and refreshed by, personally.

If there’s one area of improvement for Obi Bars in my personal opinion, I would like to see them start testing their ingredients for glyphosate because oats can be high in glyphosate. I would also like to see some organic ingredients added.

Other than that I really liked these bars a lot and could see myself purchasing them before a long hiking trip or workout/sports session at my local gym.

Special thanks to the founder Bobby for sending a sample to me!

Sincerely,

Nicholas J. Meyer
