The lab grown meat controversy in the United States shows little sign of slowing with non-GMO food advocates and industry powers on opposing sides of the aisle.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently made non-GMO and natural/organic food advocates happy when he decided to sign a bill on lab grown meat into law in the Sunshine State.
“Today, Florida is fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals,” DeSantis said in a press release on his website.
“Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranches, and we will save our beef.”
The DeSantis signed bill will prevent Florida producers from creating lab grown meat.
During a press conference in early May, he also emphasized the importance of the cattle industry in Florida and awarded $6 million to Hardee County through the Job Growth Grant Fund according to a report from FloridaDaily.com.
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson praised DeSantis and others’ efforts to enact the ban on the controversial foods, which have been supported by billionaires including Bill Gates and Sir Richard Branson.
“Florida is taking a tremendous step in the right direction by signing first-in-the-nation legislation banning lab-grown meat,” said Simpson.
“We must protect our incredible farmers and the integrity of American agriculture. Lab grown meat is a disgraceful attempt to undermine our proud traditions and prosperity, and is in direct opposition to authentic agriculture.”
Simpson said he applauded the actions of DeSantis and others in the Florida State Government.

“I applaud Governor DeSantis, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, House Speaker Paul Renner, Senator Jay Collins, and Rep. Danny Alvarez for standin gup for Florida’s farmers and consumers,” Simpson said.
“Together, we will keep Florida’s agricultural industry strong and thriving.”
