“You’ve Been Lied To:” Holistic Doctor Shares 10 Worst Pieces of Advice Given by Health Professionals in 2025

Dr. Eric Berg shared his thoughts on nutritional pitfalls.

Dr. Eric Berg

Dr. Eric Berg is a naturopathic doctor of the chiropractic discipline who has become well known on YouTube for his nutritional advice.

The longtime specialist counts 13 million subscribers among his YouTube fanbase and saw a recent video skyrocket to over 297,000 views in less than 24 hours.

Berg spoke about the nutritional pitfalls that doctors often place their patients in by giving faulty or misguided advice on various topics relating to their health. The first topic in Dr. Berg’s video is near and dear to my heart, personally.

Dr. Berg stated that many doctors refuse to highlight the importance of supplements, instead giving dietary advice. While getting nutrition from food is incredibly important, people who don’t supplement fail to fill nutritional gaps that could be exceptionally beneficial in terms of their overall health.

Here are some of Dr. Berg’s key thoughts on these topics starting with the aforementioned first one about supplements.

1. Doctors Discount Supplements Too Often-

Dr. Berg stated that the Recommend Daily Amounts of key nutrient guidelines are over 100 years old, “completely outdated,” Dr. Berg said, adding that it’s “almost impossible” to get adequate Vitamin D, Magnesium and other key nutrients from food alone.

“Then we have the missing nutrients in food because our soils are so bad,” Dr. Berg continued. “A lot of the salad is hydroponic…The microbes are really the key, giving food nutrition,” he added.

CoEnzyme Q10 is one nutrient that people who take statins become deficient in, as noted by Dr. Berg. This is why many European doctors, and lately many American doctors, prescribe it to their patients who are on statin drugs.

2. Take More Calcium Supplements to Prevent Osteoporosis-

Dr. Eric Berg said that most people have osteoporosis because of hormone problems rather than because they lack calcium.

Many doctors also are oblivious to the need for supporting nutrients to pair with calcium that help the body and bones absorb calcium properly.

3. The Problem with Sunblock-

Dr. Berg recommends avoid sunblock products with harsh chemicals. He advocates healthy sunlight exposure and cautions against staying in the sun long enough to get burned.

Berg recommends supplementing with Vitamin D to improve Vitamin D levels during times when you can’t get enough sunlight due to cloud cover, a change of seasons, or a lack of Vitamin D rich foods on hand.

4. Snack Frequently to Avoid Overeating-

Dr. Berg calls this idea “not true” because it can raise insulin.

Snacking is “bad advice” and intermittent fasting is “good advice” according to Dr. Berg.

Of course, every body is different so be sure to check with your own personal or family doctor, and don’t be afraid to experiment to find the healthy eating approach that is best for you. I personally have found that by filling the nutritional gaps with supplements and proper hydration, the need to snack too often disappears.

If you are active in sports, weightlifting, running and similar activities, I personally recommend snacking much more often than when you are sedentary with healthy foods like nuts, seeds, raw cheese from grass-fed cows, organic beef sticks and similar protein and healthy fat rich foods.

5. Sugar in Moderation-

Dr. Berg notes that sugar manufacturing companies are constantly adding more and more sugar to more and more foods.

If you’re constantly eating processed or even prepackaged foods that are doused in sugar, even 3-15 grams or more per serving, your body will have a hard time getting rid of its fat stores.

Dr. Berg recommends a mostly sugar free diet rich in healthy fats of all kinds, including saturated animal fats and saturated plant based fats like avocadoes, in his YouTube videos.
