Holistic Doctor Shares: This One Nutrient Deficiency is Present in 90% of People With Alopecia (Hair Loss). Here’s What You Can Do

Dr. Eric Berg spoke out on alopecia and research he found regarding it.

Dr. Eric Berg is a doctor of the chiropractic discipline who has spent countless hours studying nutrition and now shares it with watchers on his YouTube channel, which has over 11,000,000 subscribers.

Dr. Berg is somewhat controversial among the mainstream medical community because he isn’t a quote-unquote ‘medical doctor’ but his insights on nutrition have become incredibly useful for millions of people.

Recently, Dr. Berg shared a eureka moment he had regarding people with alopecia, a condition defined as the partial or complete loss of hair on specific regions of the scalp.

Dr. Berg uncovered a study that found about 90% of people with alopecia are deficient in a specific type of amino acid that is not widely found in most foods and not always consumed in large quantities by people with ‘regular’ diets.

He spoke at length about this surprisingly common nutrient deficiency among people with alopecia and shared his list of the top three foods for improving hair growth, since so many people seem to be focused on supplements and drugs in their quest to improve hair growth and hair retention.

Top Three Hair Growth Foods

Dr. Berg shared his top three foods for hair growth in a video that was viewed more than 390,000 times as of the writing of this article.

1. Organ Meats-

Dr. Berg mentions the amino acid histidine in the video below, which is found most abundantly in organ meats, especially in liver.

Over the many decades of human society’s ‘evolution’ many people have stopped eating the most nutrient-dense part of the animals they consume: organ meats. Dr. Berg explains that liver is the top source of the amino acid histidine which is the one that about 90% of people with alopecia are deficient in according to a recent study.

He also talks at length about how this amino acid is helpful for improving various systems of the body and why it is so crucial for hair growth and retention.

This is why Dr. Berg recommends organ meats or organ meat capsules for anyone who currently has hair loss including alopecia, if they want to grow their hair back as fully and completely as possible.

2. Animal Protein-

Dr. Berg recommends consuming more beef, fish, and similar protein-rich meat sources for anyone who wants to grow their hair as completely and fully as possible.

He recommends meat from wild caught animals and GMO-free, organic and pasture-raised sources whenever possible. To get organic, pasture-raised and grass-fed animals, it is recommend to buy from a local farmer, rancher or butcher. There are also companies that sell pasture-raised and wild caught meats online that are worth trying (more info here).

3. Shellfish-

Hair growth and retention requires a proper balance of zinc and copper. According to Dr. Berg, shellfish are rich in these minerals and contain them in healthy ratios. Shellfish also has selenium, a heart healing nutrient that many people are deficient in.

He recommends eating crab, scallops, lobster and similar shellfish, which are rich in protein and minerals. When eating these and other types of shellfish it is wise to take plant based substances or supplements that chelate any potential heavy metals such as cilantro, parsley, and zeolite, a volcanic mineral that traps and safely removes small heavy metal particles from the body.

Apples also help to chelate toxic substances as they are rich in pectin, a type of fiber that binds to toxic materials to safely remove them from the body. As always, a balanced diet is best.

Organ meats are not just rich in histidine, the amino acid needed for hair growth and retention, they are also one of the most potent sources of B Vitamins on Earth. B Vitamins are a co-factor for your body to synthesize and utilize the amino acid for hair growth Dr. Berg talks about in the video above.

Thankfully, organ meat capsules contain both B vitamins and histidine which is why I take them every morning along with my breakfast!
