Product Review: Regeneratively Raised, Grass-Fed Meats From Grass Roots Farmers Co-Op

Grassroots Farmers Co-Op Bacon

Farming practices have come into focus in recent years as consumers have sought out better quality food in all categories.

One of them is the meat industry, which has been the subject of many scandals involving factory farming, the use of genetically modified organisms in animal feed, and other controversial topics.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try several choice selections of meat from a company called GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op, which prides itself on creating ‘Meat With Intention’ since it began operations in 2014.

I came away duly impressed with the flavor, quality and variety offered by this unique company, which sources its products from a network of regenerative (better than organic) family farms across the United States with an eye on quality and supporting farmers that do things the right way.

Pastured Sugar-Free Pepper Rubbed Bacon

The first product I tried from GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op was their sugar-free pepper rubbed bacon.

The flavor on this bacon was out-of-this-world good, with just the right amount of coarse black pepper along with vinegar powder, sea salt, cultured celery powder and other spices.

This bacon is thick cut and comes from pigs who are given the opportunity to forage their natural, true to God diets on small, regeneratively focused family farms.

“Our pigs root, and wallow, in the forested areas of our farms,” the GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op writes on its website.

“They forage on fatty acorns, walnuts, mosses and bramble resulting in more complex flavor and higher Omega-3s. There’s bacon and then there’s our bacon,” they added, a slogan that I wholeheartedly agreed with upon reading it.

Hands down some of the best bacon I’ve ever had and well worth the purchase if you are a fan of gourmet, regeneratively raised bacon.

Pastured Sugar-Free Bacon Ends and Pieces

Pork Bacon Ends and Pieces from GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op

I didn’t know what to expect from this product because I had never had anything like it before.

This bacon product from GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op includes smaller sized pieces than traditional bacon but has a similar texture and flavor.

Naturally cured and hickory smoked with no nitrates or nitrites and no sugar added, these bacon ends and pieces have a less spicy flavor than the pepper rubbed variety bacon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor as well as the versatility these pork bacon ends and pieces provided. They go well in omelettes or breakfast sandwiches because they are so versatile and provide a lot of flavor in a small package.

Highly recommended.

Pastured Sugar Free Bacon

This is the classic of all classics in the bacon category.

From GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op, this is the bacon worth trying if you are looking for something less spicy with the classic size and flavor of regeneratively raised bacon from pigs that were given the opportunity to live a healthy life foraging their natural diets.

The taste of this meat was excellent. There is a slight smoky aroma from hickory wood, something I noticed while trying it for myself.

This was better than any bacon I’ve had from the store. If you’re looking for a gourmet, classic bacon for special occasions or just because you like the highest quality food imaginable, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Pastured Sugar-Free Jowl Bacon

Pork Jowl bacon from GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op.

This is another type of bacon I had never tried before.

This bacon is a personal favorite of GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op CEO Cody Hopkins according to the company’s website.

It’s the most thick cut of bacon that I tried from the company, almost similar to pork belly in its level of thickness.

Naturally cured and hickory smoked, it goes well in recipes including pasta or salads like this Pea and Herb Pasta Salad with Jowl Bacon.

The quality of the bacon from GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op speaks for itself.

With a commitment to treating their animals the right way and giving them access to their natural diets, along with plenty of room to forage and roam, GrassRoots Farmers Co-Op is taking farming and meat production back to its essence.

Everything I tried from this company was fantastic, first-in-class and delicious.
