Mango is one of the most underestimated and underappreciated fruits in the supermarket, and it also makes for a delicious snack, especially when it comes in the dried fruit variety.
I have personally been purchasing dried mango snacks at Trader Joe’s for quite some time, which is just part of the reason why I was so excited to try the dried mango snack offerings from Chimango recently.
This is a company that focuses on making unique flavors of dried mango snacks, going off of dried fruit snacks in the streets of Southern California as their premise.
The following are my impressions after trying this delicious and unique snack for the first time, and also information on where you can purchase these snacks for your own at-home or on the road consumption.
Chimango Flavors
As you can see from the picture above, these mango slices are heavy on the spices. As you may have guessed, they are also packed with flavor.
I tried the Chili Pineapple Wedges and the Chili Mango Slices.
I enjoyed both flavors thoroughly and would love to eat them again. Trader Joe’s should take notes because these two mango flavors are as good or better than anything I have eaten at that particular grocery store chain.

If I had to pick between the two flavors I would choose the Pineapple one as the sweetness of the Pineapple greatly balances the hot, hot heat of the Chili mangos, adding a complex layer of flavor to the overall assortment.
Chimango Ingredients Profile
Chimango includes a short list of ingredients which is something I can appreciate.
The Chili Mango flavor has Mango, Sugar and Citric Acid.
The Chili Blend includes Sugar, Chili Pepper, Paprika, Red Pepper, Salt and Citric Acid.
There are 19 grams of sugar per 100-calorie serving.
Consider Chimango like a candy with health benefits more than a full-on health food because of the high sugar content, although the company does not specify how much of the sugar comes from the fruit itself and how much comes from the added sugar, which would make a big difference.

I personally wish they used organic ingredients and made a statement about where their citric acid comes from, but other than that, I am a fan of these snacks.
Final Thoughts on Chimango Products
I consumed numerous bags of Chimango and I did not feel as though my blood sugar was spiked very much because of the fiber from the mango and the cayenne pepper which is helpful to metabolism and overall health for myriad reasons.
Chimango is a great snack but I would personally treat it as more on the candy spectrum and avoid consuming it too often until you know how it will affect you, especially if you have blood sugar issues.
Special thanks to Chimango for sending these snacks to me to try out for myself!
