Rebounding, or jumping on a mini-trampoline, has long been a favorite exercise of holistic health gurus and healers, in large part because of its low impact on the joints, along with its ability to work the whole body and drain the lympathic system.

I first got a chance to check out “rebounding” on a 2012 visit to a holistic health center in Michigan, a raw food healing resort called the Creative Health Institute.

While staying the night, I spent my time filling up on on raw organic food, speaking with the center’s patients (including some who were recovering from cancer), and checking out all sorts of advanced holistic health technology ranging from chi machines to infrared saunas and rebounders.

It was a paradise for both the health conscious and those recovering from disease, and rebounding was a huge part of each patient’s daily routine.

The rebounders at the Creative Health Institute were of the first-generation variety, with a noisy, clanking frame and very little room for users to freelance.

But a new type of rebounder from Germany is an entirely different piece of equipment, transcending first generation models and offering exercise benefits unparalleled by any piece of equipment I’ve tried.

My Review of the Bellicon Rebounder

The Bellicon Rebounder eschews the traditional clanky, metal design of other rebounders and instead uses bungee cords and a durable, elastic (albeit synthetic) material to lessen impact and noise when jumping.

The bungees are made from synthetic latex and are highly stretchable so that the user never receives a traditional “jolt” after using the equipment.

Designed in Switzerland and manufactured in Germany, I consider the Bellicon to be a next-generation “exercise platform,” as opposed to a simple trampoline or rebounder.

By the time I finish even a short session jumping on it, I feel lighter on my feet and notice better circulation throughout my entire body.

Top 10 things I love about the Bellicon:

If you’re looking for something to lose weight, detoxify the body, improve flexibility, strength, and ease of movement, I highly recommended checking out the Bellicon. The following are the top 10 reasons why I consider this trampoline to be the most indispensable piece of exercise equipment I’ve ever owned.

1. It’s surprisingly quiet. The mat stretches easily and makes very little noise, even on the highest jumps.

2. I feel comfortable and in control while jumping on it. I could tell its sturdiness from the get-go.

3. The feeling I get when I step off the Bellicon after even a 15-minute morning session is incredible; the best part is how the resistance on my legs from the ground feels so much less (almost like I’m floating on air instead of walking).

4. Convenience. It takes up so much less space than a treadmill, without all the noise, bells and whistles.

5. The sleek design accents my living space nicely (it goes great in a high end apartment)

6. The wide surface area lets me do mini lunges, jumping jacks and more dynamic exercises.

7. The health benefits are amazing, especially for lympathic drainage (see below; lymph drainage is one of the hardest areas to stay on top of maintenance-wise).

8. It’s actually fun (so much better than a treadmill). Jumping on the Bellicon is a real workout I actually look forward to each day.

9. The results I’ve seen so far my legs are stronger and “springier,” my skin became clearer and even my roommate noticed my under-eye bags have decreased.

10. I see myself using the Bellicon for life, rather than just storing it away in the basement. As a bonus, kids love it.

Studies Show The Health Benefits of Rebounding

Along with personal testimonies, there is much research available on the benefits of rebounding.

One study from NASA found that rebounding provides “better all-around benefits than running, isotonic (weight lifting) and isometric exercise,” the Bellicon website states.

“The results indicate that, for similar levels of heart rate and oxygen uptake (VO2), the magnitude of the biomechanical stimuli is greater with jumping on a trampoline than with running, a finding that might help identify acceleration parameters needed for the design of remedial procedures to avert deconditioning in persons exposed to weightlessness,” the study concludes.

Further research expands on the benefits of rebounding, including research from the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, which says it’s a highly useful exercise with a low impact on the body:

“The mini trampoline [rebounder] provides a convenient form of exercise with a major advantage being its apparent low level of trauma to the musculoskeletal system.”

Another study showed it is especially useful for improving the postural balance of elderly women.

Also according to the University of Utah, rebounding can lead to a decrease in the incidence of injury and overall complaints about exercise pain compared with other exercises; it absorbs about 87% of the impact compared to working out on a hard surface.

Where to Find a Bellicon Rebounder

Thus far, I couldn’t be happier with my Bellicon  I look forward to rebounding every day and I’ve already noticed a big difference in my personal health after a few short months.

If you’d like to order a Bellicon rebounder you can find them on Amazon by clicking on this link (there are several different styles, colors and sizes to choose from).

Thus far the product is relatively new to Amazon but most customer reviews have been positive.

“I had a regular gym rebounder and once I tried the bellicon I was blown away! It’s just another world !” said one anonymous Amazon customer.

Reviewer Jessie G. Padgett said the following:

bellicon review“Love it. So sturdy and quiet.”

Another reviewer on Amazon had this to say:

“I have tried several of the cheap brands and the difference is night and day between the Bellicon rebounders and what the crap that Walmart/KMart/Target sell (no comparison whatsoever).

“Since I have week knees (ACL replaced one time, probably needs to be replaced again), always looking for equipment that reduces the stress on the knees (e.g. elliptical machines, etc.). Now, having spent over $5,000 in exercise equipment over the last five or six years, it has become clear that the Bellicon rebounder is one of the best exercise devices and is definitely my favorite piece of exercise equipment.”

Reviews on Amazon have been overwhelmingly of the 5-star variety:

“Excellently made trampoline…I did my research and this is like the “lexus” of trampolines. I have had mine for a month and so far its everything they promised. Sturdy, completely noiseless… the bounce is great! 39 inch screw in legs.” said user Nallaaw.

You can also find them, and more information, on the company’s website here.
